Liquisity 2- The Magnet Ball

Here’s a quick look at a new ball straight from Liquisity 2: Unexplored Depths.

Well, actually, let’s get some things out of the way first. The last post of Liquisity showed off the new build, and some of you didn’t like the plants. Most of them were randomly blended using different colors, as that was easier for me to do…but you’re right, it looked a bit out of place. So instead I’ve gone in and tweaked the colors myself instead of a simple blend, which makes them look more natural and actually increases the game speed slightly. Woo! Check it out:

So there you go. And now I’d like to show you something called the Magnet Ball. It controls mostly like a heavy ball (a little bit better in fact) but the big difference here is it’s magnetic structure seems to attract the metal weights scattered across the levels…

And finally, a video of the ball in action. Note the goal and most of the sounds are still from the first game, so ignore all that for now (including how the ball gets stuck for a bit):

Notice how you can rotate the cannon for that perfect shot. Not sure if I ever mentioned that or not, but yeah, rotatable cannons are in! (and fixed cannons will also be in the game).

Wow, that Magnetic Ball is looking great. Fancy physics FTW.

  2. Spaceoff says:

    yay upgrades to seaweed?
But… I cant see the difference… The seaweed looks really jagged compared to the water, same as last time.

Magneticball is a looks great though!

I didn’t change the seeweed, just the bushes. I think the color looks better but your right, it still needs smoothing.

Looks Great! I really like physics, and I’m glad that there will still be a fixed cannon as well. It makes the challenges more challenging!

I like the ambient water sounds.

  7. Gah, all these videos only ever come out when I’m capped. 😛

It looks a bit more natural, although the thing I loved about Liquisity 1 is how it was quite monocoloured. Really, it was just nice because it was all shades of blue, no other colours, that is what [I think] Liquisity 2 is currently missing.

However, this of course is just my opinion.

That looks really nice! I agree, with… spaceoff, just anti-alias the seaweed, or just redraw it with smoother edges, and it should look fine. The game DOES take place under water, so it is inadvisable to have any shapes that too clearly contrast with the background, or are perfectly clear at all.

  9. minmay says:

Yep…a quick dose of Smooth Edges checkbox is what those plants could really use.

  10. chubigans says:

I actually looked through it and everything is smoothed out…once using the Smooth Edges, another time using the Interpolate Colors. Huh.

It could be the way the weeds blend within the background while using blending. I’ll have to try out a few things.
