Does it hurt being this awesome?

  2. Gingi says:

    That looks amazing!

The oil-drilling game play looks exciting, but are there any long-term goals? You mentioned ranks and objectives, but do they have substantial rewards, or are they a side thing?

I can’t help but think how similar this is to Ore No Ryomi. Brings back memories.

There are indeed long term goals. Ranks have a pretty big impact in changing the dynamics of the game; a rank 20 player will have a dramatically different gameplay experience than a level 40 player.

Once you visit all the locations, you’ll go back to the very first island you landed on…and you’ll notice how much it has changed since you were there before. It’s pretty neato.

  5. Damo566 says:

Whoa – that looks epic. It’s something new and fun that no-one’s tried before. 😛 I’ll be wanting it, thats fer sure.

  6. Wow, from the video I can really tell you put a lot of effort into the audio design. The game sounds much more rich and dynamic with the great sound effects and music.

  7. blueflare says:

    wow, this seems amazing!

    and really hard!

also, does it not have much music?

Looks like your best effort to date by far. The presentation is truly excellent. Can’t wait to play it.

  11. Spaceoff says:

    That looks absolutely class.
    Full 10 for graphical presentation.

  12. Pete says:

Whoa, this looks great. I admit that I did doubt this project for a bit, but I’ve definitely changed my mind now. The music and sounds are fantastic, and as an example I love the transmission between the Market/Worker screen and the drilling screen.

Very nice work, very Vertigo Games-esque. 😀

EDIT: I shouldn’t need to add that I will be getting this on Day 1 🙂

  13. minmay says:

Wow. Y’know, from the descriptions in past blog posts I was sort of doubtful that the game would actually be fun, but that video pretty much blew those doubts away with a .500 Magnum.

I just hope it runs on Wine!

  14. Gingi says:

What will Liquisity 2 look like after this?

This is going to be major. I mean, you’ve said this yourself: Vertigo Games has a pretty limited audience. It’s pretty much an assortment of people that follow your blog and download your games. But this looks like the game that will break Vertigo Games beyond that. Best of luck.

Hey David, topical question: Does environmental impact play a part in this game?

  16. chubigans says:

The audio design was something that was very, very important to me from the start. The music was slightly glitched in the video (it was supposed to fade out quietly during the last hour instead of stopping completely) but there’s some really great music in there, done by Jonathan Geer. The “inspirational” music that you saw on the teaser trailer has been thrown out for Geer’s work instead.

Thanks everyone for all the comments!

@Xot originally environmental impact was going to play a part in the game (such as keeping your global emissions down.) But I went ahead and axed it for the full game…mainly because it added another layer of challenge that the user wouldn’t necessarily go for (such as shutting down machines when your pollution is too high…and forfeiting the objective in the process.)

There are still some elements of the environment at play though, such as water being too polluted to fish in, though these are mostly random.

  17. chubigans says:

And I’m doing the press release for Monday instead of yesterday, mainly because I want to get some portals to OK the game and I’d like to send out review copies with the press release. 🙂

  18. xot says:

Good luck with the portals, I have good feeling about this game.

  19. What! So when I made an Oil Blue trailer I wasn’t actually using Jonathan Geer’s music!?

    Bah! *spits*

  20. Cred13 says:

It looks terrific! Can’t wait to play it.

One question, is it developed with GM like your previous projects?

  21. chubigans says:

Indeed it is! It’s made with GM8 actually.
