Cook, Serve, Delicious Update #3: Food Bits

It’s crunch time for me right now as I pound out a ton of code over the weekend to come, but I thought I’d share a few tidbits on how the game is progressing so far.

-I wrote out a schedule for me to follow in order to finish the game in a certain time frame. I’m happy to say I’m ahead of schedule at the moment. My plan is to get this done by the end of the summer, and I’m going to do everything possible to hit that. So far, things are going really well!

-Jonathan Geer, composer for Cook, Serve, Delicious, is cooking up something. Here’s what he said in his most recent newsletter:

“I’m looking for some vocal samples for a video game soundtrack I’m currently working on and I’d love for any of you who are interested to provide some.
You can do this in less than a minute and it’s going to be a lot of fun once it’s all put together. To get some more details check out the facebook event I created!”

-Nugget o’ info: The limitation of having one kind of item at one time on the screen is gone in CSD. For example, you could never have more than one beer customer at a time in ONR2. Now you can have multiple beer orders, as well as any other food, at once!

-I believe I made this clear before, but let me emphasize it a bit more. This game can be controlled in-game via entirely with the mouse *or* the keyboard. It isn’t being aimed at casual players in as much as it’s being aimed at fans of the original ONR2. This will be a challenging, crazy game. I can’t wait to explain how the balance of the game’s difficulty will work, so I’ll give you a little teaser: the idea of the “advertising” percentage in ONR2 (buying ads in newspapers, radio, etc. to increase traffic flow) has been completely taken out of CSD. In fact, you can’t really spend any money at all to get more people in the door in the way that you could in ONR2. It will depend entirely on your menu management and skill as a chef, in something that I’m calling the “Buzz Rating.” Find out more soon!

-In my opinion tomatoes in real life should only exist in sauce form only. I hate raw tomatoes and all the raw tomatoes in this game depresses me. The challenges of game making. *cries*

    Ketchup is also gross. GROSS!

  2. Hmm, that Facebook event link doesn’t work at all for me. It just takes me to my events page in general. Odd.

That tomato looks delicious, and this is coming from someone who does not eat tomatoes.

+1 for “I hate raw tomatoes”
-1 for “Ketchup is also gross”

+100 for “It isn’t being aimed at casual players in as much as it’s being aimed at fans of the original ONR2.”

It’s so nice to feel catered to. πŸ˜€

I’ll email him and see what’s up with the facebook link.

  6. Mr. Munchkin says:

I absolutely love these updates, as I get to see your coding style, and the GameMaker screen :D! I have no idea why, but it really interests me when developers do that. I get to read their code. :3

Anyways, the game is sounding amazing. I can’t wait!

  7. chubigans says:

My coding is so terrible, I’m pretty embarrassed. :p

The facebook link should work now! It was set to private instead of public.

  8. Joe says:

Yeah, Facebook link works! Sent in my recording. Finally, I’ll get to be in a VG game in a slightly more extended capacity than just “beta tester”. Now I’ll be “Beta Tester; Backup Vocals”! πŸ˜€
