greenTech
greenTech was a culmination of videogame passion, sweat, and opportunity.

I had decided on making a game for the YoYo Games Competiton 04, but during the last month the plan fell through with my other collaborator. With only three weeks to go to the competition...including Christmas and New Years...I set out to make a new game entirely that would still fit the main theme of the competition ("Save the World"). The idea, a tower defense like game using old-school computer graphics, didn't seem to work once I got it in game form. I now had a week and a half.

I started to simplify things a bit. I thought the old-school style worked, but the gameplay didn't. What would be the simplest gameplay device I could think of, while challenging the hardcore gamers at the same time? The mouse cursor.

The objective is simple: maneuver the hurricane using your mouse to guide pollution into cleaning centers. If a cloud gets into a high-pressure wind zone, it's dispersed and added to the total global warming percentage. Reach 100%, and it's goodbye world. Despite the simple premise, it is literally the hardest game I've ever created.

I spent the next few days, from 8am to well past midnight, building this game in time for the competition. Just three days before the deadline, it was officially entered into the YoYo Games entries.

In mid-Feb. 09, it was announced that greenTech was the grand prize winner of the YoYo Games Competition. To all the fans and people that supported the game, thank you. To all those that play and enjoy VG games, thank you. I never could have done it without you all.
