Hello all! Let me take a moment to introduce myself. I am JKR, creator of the cartoon Fred the Monkey<\/a>, as well as the (now complete) Cubetoons web comic. Those who frequent the Vertigo Games forums probably know me from my ramblings there. If those weren’t enough, now I’ve taken over the blog!

\nAlright, not “taken over” per se, but ol’ Chubigans has allowed me to share with you all some artwork that would no doubt be interesting to long time Vertigo Gaming fans. It would be those fans who read the blog entries “The Many Faces of Ore no Ryomi”<\/a> back in 2008 (and if you didn’t, go check it out, awesome read). But did you know that isn’t ALL the art that was in production for King of All Cooks?! I bet you didn’t. I bet you do now, though. See, you’ve already learned something.<\/p>\n

Over a few upcoming blog entries, I’m going to introduce you to some of the shelved art from the shelved King of All Cooks (aka Ore no Ryomi 3) game we were working on. Emphasis on the “shelved” part, because sadly this game is no longer in production. It’s alright, though, you have The Oil Blue<\/a> coming soon to dry your tears.<\/p>\n

Character Art:<\/strong><\/p>\n

It was planned that the characters for King of All Cooks would use a style similar to the Cubetoons comics Chubs knew me for. Only in full, glorious color. It had nothing to do with the fact that at the time I only had a grasp on one style of art and couldn’t produce anything else. No, it was certainly because the style I had going was so awesome.<\/em> *cough*<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>This art was then cleaned up in Photoshop. Or Illustrator. I can’t remember which now. I think it was Photoshop for the Characters, and Illustrator for the Food.
\n\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a>It’s clear from these colored versions just what the final characters of King of All Cooks were going to look like. A bit different than Ore no Ryomi 2, but fear not, I was totally<\/em> going to slap a mask on one of them to be the thief. After all, it’s important to stay true to the roots.<\/p>\n

These were the only two characters ever completed to final form. That’s because at the time I was hard at work fighting with Adobe Illustrator to create the style and art for some of the food<\/strong> the game would feature.
