Incorrect.

But that's okay, it's a mistake stupid people make all the time.

Oh yeah.

I went there.

It fails because it doesn't have a snipping tool? I hardly see the logic behind that?

That would be Windows 7

The lack of a snapshot tool is exactly why I didn't buy Vista. [-X

That is just one reason why Vista FAILS.

It FAILS because they didn't want anybody to actually use it for what it's designed for (ie: actual computer stuff)

It FAILS because it just made life difficult for some people who were forced to use it.

It just plain FAILS

Not rly. But 7 is epic win. I'm currently tri-booting Vista, Win 7, and Ubuntu. It is amazing.

I'm guessing your not a regular user of it, or something doesn't work properly in it.

Vista has in fact been selling quite well. 100 million copies, boosting their revenues up 30%. I think its doing quite well. the enhanced security should be seen as in improvement. Windows only attracts virus's and spyware because it is the dominate operating system.

It was insecure because it was based on (really) old code. For Microsoft to just drop it all and start a new operating system from scratch seems a bit much (not to mention the time it would take). There are rumors of this (Google: midori) but I can't see it happening anytime soon.

So where do we meet. On one end we have the old ancient Windows XP, and on the other end we have midori. Vista meets in the middle. UAC might be annoying (and they have corrected this in 7), but now that it has been out now for a while, most modern programs* you won't even see it.

The reason why XP is still licensed? 2 reasons - one netbooks, Vista is too powerful (but 7 isn't, I can get 3> hours of use with Aero enabled and Wifi on my 6 cell netbook) and two old software. There are many business's running old and outdated custom software that won't run on vista. Business's won't upgrade (or buy new machines) if the software doesn't work on it.

Let's recap on why I hate Vista, though this has been done to death already, really:

1. Performance. Okay, seriously, this is a major problem. Windows XP takes up only about 2% of my CPU when it's basically idle. The processor in my mother's laptop is 40% as powerful as the processor in my desktop, and her Vista installation takes up 20% of that processor when idle. That is a bad thing.
2. Compatibility. Seriously, you can't run GM6 games on it, you can't run some MMF games on it, about 30% of other applications that work fine on XP require serious configuration to run on Vista, and another 10% won't work at all. THAT SUCKS. And don't say "Well, that's the software maker's fault" because it's just plain stupid for them to be expected to anticipate Microsoft's actions, and similarily stupid to expect them to update their software to work with every new operating system. Granted, XP has this problem when compared with 98 or 2000 (or ME :right ), but it's not nearly as ridiculous as in Vista.
3. Price. Oh! I can buy a slight security upgrade for $200! Even if it didn't have all its other problems, that would still be an utter rip-off! Seriously, it would be cheaper to get a terminal virus and replace my hard drive. Twice, even. Or I could buy antivirus software and have actual security, which I'd need to do anyway.

I haven't heard altogether that much about Windows 7. If it fixes the aforementioned problems, and it has actual advantages over XP, I'll buy it. Otherwise, screw Microsoft, because even when they stop supporting XP I doubt that very many other companies will.

So why don't you switch to Linux, then?

As soon as it can run more Windows applications than Windows (which it almost can, but not quite), I'll switch. Actually I'll probably switch before that, but I just can't imagine having to play Iji without the music.

Yeah yeah yeah, let's not spoil this happy Happy Birthday thread with near-flaming.

Conclusion:

Vista sounds cooler than XP
XP has a shorter name (that also looks like an emoticon) than Vista.
Linux über alle.

End of discussion.
